Shimayasu Hankougei Seisakusho, a Kishu-lacquerware manufacturer established in 1916, proudly introduced the "DoMeGe" brand in 2021. "DoMeGe" stands for "Domestic Gear," embodying the brand’s unwavering commitment to crafting premium Japan-made camping gear.
In the wake of challenging times, with the decline in its traditional lacquerware business triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic of 2019, Shimayasu saw an opportunity for reinvention - the birth of its outdoor business department and the “DoMeGe” brand arose from a passion and love for outdoor activities, help to endure a difficult period of having to stay indoors and being stripped of freedom during the pandemic.

“Koi-hotaru” stands as the core product of DoMeGe, an outdoor brand launched by Shimayasu Hankougei in 2021.
The product serves as a customizable lamp shade designed for GOAL ZERO compact outdoor LED lanterns, to give a warm and natural touch to the light it emits. Derived from a term well known in「大和言葉 (Yamato Kotoba)」which is the old Japanese native language, 「恋蛍 (Koi Botaru)」translates to “longing for” or “to be deeply in love with”. Its name was deliberately chosen with the aspiration that there would be a deep affection developed for the light and radiance emitted by "koi-hotaru."
The ”koi-horaru” line encompasses three main variations:「koi-hotaru pure」crafted purely from fatwood, 「koi-hotaru fusion」combining biodegradable resin and fatwood, and「koi-hotaru fushion +」which is an enhanced version with further refinement to the original fusion model.
Fatwood is typically known as the resinous remains of pine trees that have withered – retrieved from the heartwood of pine trees, fatwood is abundant in natural resin that allows light to permeate through, creating a soothing warm glow. The innate qualities of fatwood enable “koi-hotaru” to create a warm, calming atmosphere by transforming the inorganic LED light of GOAL ZERO through its permeability, thus being a premium interior accessory of exceptional quality.
